One Nibble at a Time

Sometimes the "elephant" seems too massive for a full bite, and one must nibble her way through to the other side.

I've spent this weekend nibbling on several large mounds piled hither and thither. During the week I've been working on quilting the Angry Birds (Ugh!) sandwich I created almost immediately after pinning the batik top from last post. I've had the backing for it for yonks (can you tell I enjoy British and Ozzie sitcoms?), and recently franken'ed a batting as well, so there was no reason for it to still be hanging about. Plus, I knew exactly how I wanted to quilt all aspects of it, so it was easy to put it ahead of the batik sandwich (the quilting of which I'm still pondering).

The "easy" parts were stippled, their borders filled with a simple wave pattern, then it came time to quilt the strips of 5-patches. I bitched and moaned about doing these with the last one, but this time I decided I'd go with option 2 of the three I set out for myself at the conclusion of that quilting session.

August birthday

Did you feel that? A massive shift in the universal angst?

All the 8/8/88 babies turn 35 today.

Hope and Fresh Air

"... I feel as if I'm making quilts from hope and fresh air." Caroline's comment was floating in the background all yesterday and today as I sorted, trimmed, marked and sewed together all the batting scraps that have been accumulating. It was how I intended to use the Rocketeer this month, so no sense in letting them sit idly on the sewing table!

Let the Games Begin!

Like answering a strange number on my phone, knowing it'll probably be a scam and being prepared to give more BS than the caller, getting Craigslist texts has become another game of 'Not on MY watch!' When my phone *ding*ed this morning with a text notification, the title of this post was the first thing to come into my head.

He's Just Not That Into You

To paraphrase Steve Martin's titular character in The Jerk, "The Gallup poll is here! The Gallup poll is here! Things will start happening to me now!"

The cover letter of the poll I received in today's mail, addressed to me in impressive all-caps, read in part (emphases mine):

"Because you were randomly selected to participate in our poll, your responses are important and we cannot replace you with someone else. Your responses will represent thousands of people just like you who were not selected to participate. Your individual responses will remain completely confidential and Gallup will never release any of your personal information."

They like me, they really like me!

The next paragraph goes on (emphasis theirs):

"In order to ensure that the research represents a random sample of people living in the United States, please ask the person age 18 or older in your household who will have the next birthday to fill out this survey."

So The Loud got the $1 enclosed as a token of their appreciation, and I got royally dissed somehow.
