La Grande Expérience

"The Great Experiment" is what I'm conducting today. I've decided to deliberately pin baste two sandwiches, despite my experience last time, but this time using Bonnie's suggestion of raising the table a bit more.

This is the first top, basting completed in about 4.5 hours (to include lunch).

Lots of extra lines from the sun shining through the bamboo shade.

This is the sandwich I've just secured to the table.

At this rate, I should (I hope to) have it done by the cats' dinner time and the start of The Loud's and my evening TV viewing. We're going to give the Netflix movie "The Dead Don't Die" a try tonight.

I'll let you know how my back fared!

Update, 2-1/2 hours later:

The bricks are a game-changer! Granted, I wasn't pinning as obsessively close as I've done in the past, but the second sandwich never felt like a punishing endurance test. I was even pinning standing up in some sections! Because I could move freely and without pain for the entire time, I was able to keep up the same pace at which I started, which helped things go quicker than last time.

The only things hurting at the moment are my hands and wrists, because I'm finding the longer the binder clips stay in their bin, the harder they are to open. Yeah, Carolyn. It's the age of the binder clips that's the problem here....

  1. Glad the solution to the back ache was as simple as raising the table. Binder clip springs are strong! I'm fortunate, I guess, that I only need to use four to anchor a back for basting. Have you seen A Man on the Inside with Ted Danson?

    1. Loving that show! It's surprising the actresses playing all the residents--Susan Ruttan (LA Law) was a shock, as was Sally Struthers!

I suppose I don't have to use 20 clips around the perimeter, but it sure feels secure when I do!

  2. Yea for semi pain free while pinning a quilt! I am spoiled with the long arm. On the other hand I did pin a small quilt the other day. Darn memory — I can’t remember what it was. Sigh. Hope you can quilt it without aches and pains.

    1. I think the only thing keeping me from jumping back in and pinning more is my dwindling supply of pins. You'll be feeling fond thoughts from me every time I baste now.

  3. I'm still coming across chair raisers (aka elephant's feet), I found a set when I went to put the wrapping paper away today. No doubt they were there when I took the wrapping paper out but I managed to overlook them then in the same way I've been overlooking them for years.

    1. Rather contrary to expectations, isn't it? Finding things as you're adding more stuff to the space, rather than when removing it.

Merry holidays to you and D,
