I am still loving my weight-bearing system while quilting.

Notice what's waiting to be sandwiched? Diamonds and Pinwheels! |
I FMQed a running line of leaves in all the black sashes, using black thread, so the spacing of the leaves was sometimes...fluid. Black on black--I couldn't see a damn thing! The binding fabric came out of the CF!Q Legacy stash green bin. I love me some stripes, so I cut the entire yard into 2" bias strips and made one long binding out of them. I have plenty ready now for a second quilt.
The rest of the top was quilted using Urban Elementz's "Open Fan". I took advantage of a sunny morning to really showcase this delightful pattern.

This beauty is tumbling around in the dryer with 4 tennis balls at the moment. When it's done and my lap is vacated by QI Zoe, I'm doing to spend the rest of this Dreadful Tuesday tackling the inadequate backing of a previous sandwich so I can get that under the needle.
There's another project that has taken a step or two forward. Rather than trying to finish this with a light background, as the original pattern would have you do, it occurred to me to use something that would make the cube pop.
(I did some rearranging of my design board fabrics, so now I have mini-boards scattered in various nooks and crannies.) This is very similar to one of the fabrics used in the finished quilt above, but it has gold glints and highlights.I believe letting this little wallhanging age for almost (over?) a generation is long enough. It's time to get it done and hung!
To aid in the feeling of 'Tis the Season, Texas weather has finally cooled down. We went from Summer to Winter in the space of a day, it feels like. I'm loving the cooler temps and the excuse to pull out quilts and afghans. That's the only time Wraith will join Zoe for adjacent naps.

Flying Geese slippers. That's the reason I bought them. |
I've seen that hanging system demonstrated at quilt shows. Glad it's working well for you! The floral quilt is great and you've given me an idea for using the contents of the "realistic florals" box. It may be chilly in central Texas but it's darned cold in northeasternmost Illinois (9 degrees this a.m., but forecast is 40's by Monday).
ReplyDeleteI'm sure my system is a cheap knock-off of the general idea, as it's merely binder clips threaded on cords, suspended from my hanging organization system (https://cbottsprojects.blogspot.com/2019/07/hows-it-hangin.html). But oh my is it nice to not have the bulk catching between edges or on corners as I'm quilting!
DeleteSo glad I inspired an idea for your florals. That's the best part about reading blogs--the ideas that spark!
