Done and Deglittered

Finally got out of my comfy recliner last night (when the temps were finally below 90F but there was still daylight) and took "Done!" photos of the Sugar Skull quilt that will be donated to Sleep in Heavenly Peace.

70" x 90"

Back fabrics close-up:

Going back over previous posts about this, I see it was nearly 2 years ago that I applied the binding! For some misbegotten reason, I decided to hand-sew the binding down. Two years ago I was still visiting my mother in Memory Care, so this was a constant companion (to work on if she was napping when I arrived). When she passed, so did any inclination to pull this out of its bag and get 'er dun.

Until this month, that is. Things started to get done in my studio. Spaces started to clear. I started to get curious again about what I had so neatly stacked/piled in various corners and drawers over a year ago. And this, so close to being done (I'd stitched almost 1/2 the binding down already) was a likely candidate for a "quick" finish. Quotation marks because hand-sewing binding down is anything but quick in my experience!

So much dust and cat hair and glitter had fallen on it in the months it lay on its pile, despite being nestled in its travel bag! A quick spin in the dryer took care of the detritus on the quilt, but I'm still finding sparkles everywhere.

Why glitter, you ask? (I know you didn't; humor me with this literary device.) Well, in my non-blogging months, specifically January and February, I was making 28 of these for the Chisholm Trail Chorus:

It was a labor of love, and glitter, and they were delighted with how the jackets looked and how they felt wearing them. I know every one of those heart hands were directed at me.
