New Queue!

Fans of Eddie Izzard will hear his excitement in the phrase "New Queue!"

That's what the orphan legacy scraps (left over from this quilt and this quilt) and my bulging string bin have decided to form: a new queue of projects.

The bags hold most of the strings from the string bin, sorted by value (several days "auditioning" fabrics on the design wall to get those sorted). Strings shorter than 7.5", or having a value that just would not settle into one camp or the other, all got tossed back into the bin. That sorting was the next step forward on this project:
The first step was described here.

The string squares/diamonds were in a baggie in the string bin. I'd made several squares and then cut them in half. But why? I pulled them out, paired them up, and stuck them up on the design wall for possible inspiration of what the heck to do with them.

In the drawer that used to hold the legacy scraps for the aforementioned log cabin quilts . . .

. . . I'd been stuffing further scraps and chunks as I came across them while rifling through the various CF!Q legacy stash bins. The other women of the group don't seem to enjoy making scrap quilts as much as I, so I cull out the "little" bits and leave the FQ-or-larger pieces for them.

Anyway, the drawer was stuffed full again, and at one point I'd included the plan for the next log cabin I wanted to create. It was something I'd drawn up decades ago and recently came across again (in the great Hide and Seek game). It's in the forefront of the top picture--a log cabin with red lines woven throughout.

The game plan is to empty that drawer as I cut the scraps and chunks down to 2.5" strips for the woven log cabin. Any strings remaining will be added to the plastic bags to flesh out that project.

And I'll spend a few hours reading through my blogs, and enjoying some hot coffee on this cold morning, to see if I can find provenance for those 20 triangles (10 diamonds/squares).

The word "queue" always reminds me of a sign that was hanging in one of the commissaries I'd shop at when the kids were small. It was spelled "queueue" and I'd amuse myself (and probably embarrass the boys) by pronouncing it as "kyoo-ee-yoo-ee".

  1. I love your stream-of-consciousness logic as you describe your projects. :)
